Workshop Description

Welcome to the Art of Tea: Ceramic Workshop & Japanese Tea Ceremony Experience!

Hello, I am the Japanese Haruka who has lived, worked and held studio in the Netherlands for many years. My work is about paying attention to earth, because that is how all my ceramics start. My tea name is Souran, my teacher is called Sousen Nakai and the tea ceremonies 'the Obaku Baisaryu' are recurring workshops, which I see as the art of drinking tea together with always a different group of local people. A daily act I see as ritual; momentarily hushed to an experience of connection, respect, purity and peace.

The Obaku-Baisharyu school is a tea ceremony school that inherits the ideas of the Zen priest Obaku Baisaou, who believed that a bowl of tea should be tastier and more enjoyable to taste, and that through the tea ceremony we should cherish each other's hearts. The tea ceremony is a school of sencha-do (sencha tea ceremony) that has developed based on the idea of "valuing each other's hearts through tea" and the tea ceremony of the Obaku school of Zen Buddhism, and has been handed down together with the aspirations of Baisaou.
